 It is Sunday and this on its own is a good reason to enjoy one or more of the 28 free events taking place in London. Here are some suggestions:

  • Let your children fly on a magic carpet to storytelling at the National Gallery! This activity is free and is suitable for children 2-5 years old. There are two sessions-10.30am and 11.30am-and places are allocated upon arrival.
  • Learn about famous film locations at Somerset house! There is a free guided tour at 11.15am, but first collect your free tickets from the Information Desk in the Seamen’s Hall, South Building (tickets available from 10.30am). It lasts approximately 45 minutes and is  repeated at 1.45pm.
  • Don’t miss the screening of a series of short films about the creative relationship of Pere Portabella and Joan Miró and also about different aspects of Miró’s work. You can watch them for free at Tate Modern at 3pm. No booking taken, but places are limited.

  It is Saturday! And there are 30 free events around London for you to enjoy! So, make your pick and have fun! Here are some suggestions:

  • Free Art Through Words event at 11.30am at The National Gallery. There will be a description session for blind and partially-sighted visitors on Gustave Moreau’s ‘Saint George and the Dragon’. Don’t miss it!
  • Discover another aspect of Somerset House, such as evidence of Tudor intrigue and Georgian Enlightenment; all with a free guided tour through its atmospheric spaces at 12.15pm, 1.15pm, 2.15pm and 3.15pm.
  • Free Holiday Drop-in Workshop: Real to Reel @ Somerset House. Have your children discover how to transform your drawings into moving images through different simple forms of animation. This workshop is taking place at 2pm and is suitable for children for children 6-12 years old. There is no need to book, but spaces are limited and are allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.

  Friday is here and there are some great and really interesting free events taking place in London! There are 24 of them around the city and here are some suggestions:

  • Monet Mobile at The National Gallery! Take inspiration from the fluid brushstrokes and sense of movement in ‘Bathers at le Grenouillère’ by Monet and create your own hanging creation. This workshop is free and is taking place at 1pm. The places are limited, so, arrive early to avoid any disappointment.
  • Enjoy your lunch break by listening to pieces by Beethoven, Scarlatti and Chopin at a free concert at the Saint Martin-in-the-fields. It takes place at 1pm and there is a suggested donation of £3.50 is taken at the end of the concert which goes towards the work of St Martin’s.

  • Discover another aspect of Somerset House, such as evidence of Tudor intrigue and Georgian Enlightenment; all with a free guided tour through its atmospheric spaces at 1.15pm and 2.45pm.
  • Join the Roxborough Folk Choir at the Victoria and Albert Museum at 2pm for a performance of ‘Canne Brulée to Canrival’ Festival. There will be storytelling, folk songs, traditional dances and rich costumes! And guess what! It is free and suitable for all ages!

  •  3D thinkers in a 2D World at the Victoria and Albert Museum. Artist Benedict Philips will reveal in a humorous and thought-provoking way his dyslexic projects, examining presumptions about intelligence, communication and perception and presenting the unusual advantages dyslexia brings. The talk is free and is taking place at 1.15pm.
  • Don’t miss the chance to watch a free screening of a version of the speech James Stirling delivered at Yale University, having to do with the announcement he made at the International Congress of Architecture in Persepolis towards the end of 1974. It starts at 4pm, but it is 5 minutes long and is continuously playing during this hour-long screening.

  • Why don’t you take an Italian Grand Tour at the National Gallery and explore some great paintings from Venice, Rome and Bologna? This ‘trip’ is free and is taking place at 1pm. Places are limited however to 40 people on a first-come, first-served basis. So, arrive early in order not ot get disappointed.
  • Have you ever wondered about funerary architecture and design? Attend then this free talk at 1pm at the Victoria and Albert Museum with drawings and photographs from the RIBA and the V&A collections.

Monday is here and what a better way to start your week by attending one of the 21 free events taking place in London. Here are some suggestions:

  • Make your own Patterns & Pixels at the Victoria and Albert Museum and create a digital design inspired by shapes and colours from the Islamic Middle East. This is a free family activity and it is recommended for ages 6+.
  • Why not spend your lunchtime break listening to some music? There is a free concert at Saint Martin-in-the-Fields with works by Schumann and Beethoven. Please, not that there is a suggested donation of £3.50 is taken at the end of the concert which goes towards the work of St Martin’s.

It is Saturday! And there are 33 free events around London for you to enjoy! So, make your pick and have fun! Here are some suggestions:

  • Go to the British Museum and attend this interesting free talk on three great collectors; Hans Sloane, Joseph Banks and Charles Townley. It takes place at 1.15pm (Room 1).
  • Free family workshop: Olympiad Open Weekend – Holiday Drop-in Workshop: The Recycling Plant @ Somerset House. Have your children make their unique 3-D designs created with materials that most people would throw away. This workshop is taking place at 2pm and is suitable for children for children 6-12 years old. There is no need to book, but spaces are limited and are allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.
  • Listen to Jameel Prize 2009 artist Hassan Hajjaj discussing a photographic work in progress on the Gnawa master musicians. It will be accompanied by a music performance. This event is free and will take place at 2pm at the Victoria and Albert Museum.

  • Get inspired by Giordano’s ‘Perseus turning Phineas and his Followers to Stone’ at The National Gallery and attend this free Talk and Draw event at 1pm. Listen first to a short talk about the painting and then make your own response to it. The places are limited, so, arrive early to avoid any disappointment.
  • There is a handling session for visually impaired people at the British Museum. It takes place at 2 pm and it is absolutely free. Don’t miss it!
