Hello there! For Friday we have collected 23 free events taking place in and around London.

Here are some ideas:
free craft sessions (11am – 3.30pm, banded entry every 45 minutes – last entry at 2.45pm) related to the collections and gardens of the Horniman Museum (include making your own Olympic torch, paper bag mouse puppets, bug masks, headdresses from Papua New Guinea and crazy carnival spectacles). For families with children aged 3+- free outdoor activity where you become a resident of London’s smallest suburb in Theatre Square and you get to develop your house and community. When you leave you can take your home, home. Think something like an analogue version of “SimCity” (National Theatre Square, 12 noon – 7.30pm). Watch this video to get an idea about what is going to happen!
- a free screening of the film “The Producers” (1968, dir: Mel Brooks, 88 mins) projected on the flytower. The film is a comedy about a theatrical producer and an accountant who attempt to cheat their investors by deliberately producing a flop show on Broadway. Watch the trailer to check if it’s your kind of humour
If you prefer music there is a free gig with singer-songwriter Mat Andasun who mixes pop, funk and prog rock with latin music (6pm, National Theatre Square). There is also a free BBC Proms Plus event where experimental composer Alvin Curran and writer and broadcaster Ivan Hewett will introduce you to the world of John Cage (5pm, Royal College of Music). There is also a free ticketed event where by using your headphones you will take part in a curated Music Walk that will lead you to hidden locations and surprising live performance (South Kensington, 6pm-7pm).
For the friends of art there are options including:
- free Talk and Draw workshop (The National Gallery, 1pm) where inspired by Velázquez’s painting “Christ contemplated by the Christian Soul”, the participants will have the opportunity to draw their own masterpiece. Even materials will be provided for free!
- a free 10-minute talk on Antonio del Pollaiuolo’s painting “Apollo and Daphne” (The National Gallery, 4pm)
- two 15-minute introductory talks to painters Henri Rousseau and George Stubbs (The National Gallery, 6pm and 6.20pm respectively)
- PLUS the daily free guided tours of the Victoria and Albert Museum (highly recommended) and the National Gallery ones; on Fridays there is an extra, late (7pm) tour at The National Gallery; a great way to spend your evening!
There is also a free, ticketed, guided tour exploring more about Southbank Centre’s roots, architecture and some memorable moments in its 60-year history (daily 11.30am & 2.30pm until 9 September 2012).
